Discussions with civil society groups and talks by artists on the topic of community cultural development will take spotlight on the first day. The event ends on Sunday with performances, poetry readings and dance produced by foreign domestic workers. Integrate will also include a special feature on artworks by transient migrant workers from our creative workshops. Other highlights include a flea market and art installations by migrant worker participants from Migrant Voices’ “Grass Day Out” outreach programme. Come and discover the world through their eyes!

12 OctProject Description:
In celebration of International Migrants Day (December 18), Migrant Voices (MV) will have events and exhibitions at The Pigeonhole and Group Therapy on December 17 and 18, to showcase our different projects. As project manager of Grass Day Out (GDO), I’m organising a photo shoot for an exhibition.
Tetatively titled “The Migrants We’ve Met,” this photo+text exhibition will showcase the people and stories that we have met through GDO, one of MV’s programmes. The exhibition will consist of a portrait photo of each subject, accompanied by a short profile of that person, and possibly a couple of smaller candid or behind-the-scenes photos.
Dates and details:
• Shoot days are on 13 and 20 November (both are Sundays), from 11 am to 5 pm. The 11 am call time is for everyone involved. (You can volunteer for one or both days.)
• Tentative venue for makeup and interviews is the ISS International School’s Paterson Campus, on Paterson Road behind ION Orchard. Actual shoot venues will be various spots around Orchard.
• Target of 10 to 15 subjects per shoot day = 20 to 30 portraits to be exhibited in total
Volunteers needed for this exhibition:
5 photographers per shoot day – to do portraits and behind-the-scenes shots
5 writers per shoot day – to do recorded interviews (I suggest doing this during makeup) and submit a 200- to 300-word profile and the interview transcript for each interviewee
5 makeup artists per shoot day – to help with hair and makeup (mirrors will be provided)
All volunteer crew are to bring their own equipment (e.g. recorders, makeup and hair styling equipment)
Everyone involved will of course be properly credited.
About Grass Day Out:
The original idea of Grass Day Out was to go to migrant hangouts on a Sunday afternoon and spend time with migrant workers. In 2010, we held GDO sessions at Golden Mile Complex, Little India, Lucky Plaza, and Geylang Serai/City Plaza. In 2011, we changed format and ran a volunteer-taught hiphop dance workshop. A volunteer-taught drama workshop will also begin next month.
About Migrant Voices:
Migrant Voices is a community arts charity established in 2006 to share the stories and celebrate the artistic talents of migrant workers in Singapore. We do this by organising arts-related workshops and creating opportunities for migrant workers to develop and showcase their artistic talents. Find out more at http://www.migrantvoices.org.

Integrate Activities
21 SepHi,
We will be holding Integrate on 17th and 18th December this year. We’re planning a range of activities for members of the public and migrant workers in order to commemorate International Migrants’ Day which falls on 18th December.
For more information on what International Migrants’ Day is all about, please read the official brief from the United Nations.
Integrate is a multidisciplinary platform performed annually at different venues with presentations on dance, drama, visual arts, poetry readings and thematic talks. Migrant Voices curates this show each year as a way of integrating various strands of community players together. Our intention is to spread the message of diversity, community and harmony. Most importantly, we promise to put up a good show for everyone.
The schedule will be up once we have confirmed the line-up.
cheers,
MV
